In 2003, with a tropical breeze blowing through his hair, far, far above the steamy city of Bangkok, Deepak Ohri stood looking out. He thought to himself: “I have never seen a view like this anywhere in the world. This is something really unique.”
Now, 16 years later, time has proved him right. After the success of Sirocco and Sky bar (in a reverse hospitality model) in 2006, the all-suite luxury hotel lebua was founded. And many more oft-awarded culinary and cocktail spaces in quick succession. People have since come from around the world to experience the theatre and thrill of being a part of the nightly show; above Bangkok’s glistening lights.
“We wanted to create something different. More than just ‘luxurious rooms.’ If we had done that we would be in a queue with a long line of hotels. The element of surprise is very important.” When there is no level of surprise there are no emotions.” Deepak says.
Fast forward to April 2018. Deepak started to dream again – for lebua to be the highest destination of hotspots under one roof. And, less than one year later, with the opening of lebua No.3, Pink Bar and Chef’s Table, Deepak’s dream is now a reality. “There are many horizontal destinations in the world. Clarke Quay in Singapore, Rodeo drive, Soho… and there are many tall structures. But no one has been able to put these ideas together… to create everything we have; all under one roof.”
